Valentine’s day, also known as Saint Valentine’s Day, is celebrated annually on February 14. This day is the day of love and romance, strengthening the bond shared among loved ones. There are many stories about Saint Valentine. The most famous one is that during his life. Emperor Claudius II thought that soldiers should only be devoted to the country i.e. Rome and therefore passed a law preventing them from marrying.
It was during this time, Saint Valentine began to marry these soldiers in secret ceremonies which marked his belief in the importance of love. However, Claudius found out about this and jailed Valentine. It is believed that during his imprisonment he cared for his fellow prisoners and also his jailor’s blind daughter. He cured her blindness and before his execution wrote her a love letter signed ‘from your Valentine’. He was executed on 14th February in the year 270.
People normally associate the celebration with the young couples, but nowadays it is celebrated across the world among everyone, be it with your family or friends. People do different things on this day, some go for romantic dinner while others may propose or get married. Many people give gifts like flowers, chocolates, perfumes, etc. as the token of their love. The whole purpose is to celebrate love and restricting it to one particular age group or couples would be wrong. This day is to express your love, so why not express it to everyone rather than just your partner.
Another most significant and beautiful thing about this year’s Valentine’s Day. Everyone will celebrate it, where everyone specifically includes the LGBTQI community. After the momentous verdict of Supreme Court. Where it termed IPC’s Section 377, finally, the LGBTQI community will be able to celebrate their love and relationship with freedom after a long time of discrimination based on their sexual orientation. This year, Valentine’s Day is significant for our country and its people, where finally everyone will be celebrating love and the bond they share with their loved ones irrespective of gender.
No doubt, this Valentine’s Day is way more special and precious. So, do not restrict it to the couples. Tell your family members and friends how much you love them and go out on a dinner date with them. Because Valentine’s Day is for everyone and everyone should be loved and cared. Love is for everyone and it is everywhere, so if you feel like going on a date with yourself and treat yourself, then go ahead. As love has no boundaries, so break the barriers and let it go.
