A 12-year-old boarding school student, Vasu Yadav. He was beaten to death by his seniors with cricket bats and wickets for stealing a packet of biscuits while they were out.
The case came on the surface on Wednesday evening as per a report in the Times of India. It was reported that the school management, in order to hide the incident after doctors declared the victim dead. They hurriedly buried the body inside the school campus without sending it for post-mortem and even without informing the boy’s parents about it.
Nivedita Kukreti, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Dehradun, told TOI that there were several faults on the school’s part. “Not only was the boy taken very late to the hospital that led to his death, but the staff members also tried to hide the incident and did not report it to police. He was beaten up in phases in the afternoon, while he was taken to hospital in the late evening,” the officer said.
The incident took place on 10th March and it came to light due to the intervention of Usha Negi, chairperson of the Uttarakhand State Commission for Protection of Child Rights.
Finally, a case has been registered against the two seniors, both class 12 students, under section 302 (murder) and against three staff members, which includes the hostel manager, warden and sports teacher, under Section 201 (causing disappearance of evidence of offence) of Indian Penal Code (IPC).
